2022 Talk: An Open-Source Knowledge Graph To Help Dominica Become Climate-Resilient

Following the devastating impact of Hurricane Maria in 2017, the Caribbean Island of Dominica, with the help of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, set upon becoming the world’s first climate-resilient nation. Guided by the UN advisory group, ARISE-US, a team of technical experts was assembled to build a critical asset management system. The team used open-source knowledge graph technology to develop a system that identifies the Island’s critical assets and the relationships between them to show cascading failure chains to help Dominica plan for extreme weather events.
